Bruno Mars was talking on the phone, which, really, was kind of a rude thing to do since he was in the middle of entertaining some 30,000 fans at the time. But he didn’t stay on the call long, quickly telling the (imaginary?) person that he had to get back to the gig at hand. “I’m in Napa,” he explained. “I’m over here at BottleRock. “You know — the fancy Coachella.” Yes, we know, Bruno. We — as in some 120,000 fans over the course of three days, May 25-27 — were there too at the 6th annual BottleRock Napa Valley in downtown Napa.. And it was pretty great. Mars’ comparison to King Coachella, aka the most important and influential pop-rock festival in the country, was quite telling. And it just further underscored what is becoming increasingly obvious: BottleRock is now one of the country’s elite music festivals. Fans have voted it as such, casting perhaps the most telling of all ballots — their hard-earned cash — as this year’s festival sold out in record time.

“The inaugural Sonoma Harvest Music Festival was a tremendous success in 2018, so we’ve doubled the fun,” said Dave Graham a partner in BottleRock Presents, in a press release. “The festival will now be two full weekends in 2019, with each weekend offering a unique lineup of terrific artists.”

Even within those limits, a handful of candidates have stepped up to try to establish the city’s first legal retail weed economy. Among those in the running is The Higher Path, which intends to operate from a 650-square-foot space at 1963 Iroquois St. Pending a use permit and a city business license, the dispensary should welcome its first visitors by November, according to Jerred Kiloh, a partner in the dispensary, which is an outgrowth of The Higher Path in Sherman Oaks outside Los Angeles.

For the eighth consecutive summer, dozens of bands and soloists took over porches and lawns Sunday afternoon for Napa Porchfest, delivering an array of performances seemingly as varied as ever despite a schedule cut down by 90 minutes from previous years. Organizers of the nonprofit musical crawl, which played out mainly in the Old Town neighborhood near Fuller Park, said attendance likely reached 15,000 – nearly the same level as at the six-hour extravaganzas of the past two years.
